I'm pleased with the way this CD is going. Michael and I have this Kenny Burrell/Jimmy Smith thing going and it moves! For one cut, I used an Epiphone Howie Roberts, nice thick body, 25 1/2 inch scale, much like a strat but what a sound! I'm taking more control with this one and should have the final cuts ready soon.

IN ORBIT

Alien Records

Recorded at:
Metalworks
Mississauga, Ontario

(sample tracks)

Credits
Producer: Michael Fonfara
Co-producer: L. Stew Young
Engineer: L. Stew Young
Mastering: Nick Blagona
Musicians
Joe Mavety: guitar, vocals
Michael Fonfara: keyboards, vocals
Paul DeLong: drums
Gary Taylor: drums
Garth Vogan: bass
Chriss Gartener: bass

This is a very loose album. I was just getting ready to move to Vancouver and I wanted to document the groove we had at one my regular gigs at the Orbit Room. Most of it is straight off the floor and it was done in a few days. Nice live feel.

Pat Carey: horns
Dennis Pinhorn: bass
Mike Fitzpatrick: drums
Jim Casson: percussion
Chuck Jackson: harp, vocals

This was conceived a songwriter's album, no covers. It took quite a while to record as I was working a very tight budget. Great players on board and a good learning experience.

1981
DANGEROUS ACQUAINTANCES
Island Records

Recorded at:

Matrix Studios
London, 1980

Credits
Producer: Mark Miller Mundy
Engineer: Bob Potter
Mix Engineer: Ed Thatcher
Musicians
Marianne Faithfull: vocals
Joe Mavety: lead guitar
Barry Reynolds: rhythm guitar
Terry Stannard: drums
Steve York: bass

Besides the core band, lots of heavy hitters came to these sessions. As a result, I think the album is way over produced and lacks focus. It's been released and pulled back lots of times over the years. Island never really knew what to do with it.

1979
BROKEN ENGLISH

Island Records

Recorded at:
Matrix Studios
London
September 1978-May 1979

Credits
Producer: Mark Miller Mundy
Engineer: Bob Potter
Mixing Engineer: Ed Thatcher
Musicians
Marianne Faithfull: vocals
Joe Mavety: lead guitar
Barry Reynolds: rhythm guitar
Terry Stannard: drums
Steve York: bass
Steve Winwood: synths

The difficulty of these sessions was crafting a sound to suit Marianne's unique style. The demo with Broken English and Why'd You Do It got us a deal with Island and we were away to the races. By the way, the rolling bass line on Broken English came from a track Winwood decided not to use on his first album.
